$617K surplus for Cohoes in 2017

COHOES – The city finished 2017 with a $617,000 budget surplus, the second year in a row it saved more than $600,000 on its spending, Mayor Shawn Morse said Monday.

The city’s financial reserves are now $4.2 million or 22.1 percent of its general fund budget of $19 million, Morse said.

The city’s fiscal strength led Morse to predict that city taxes would remain flat for a third consecutive year when the city’s 2019 budget is drafted later this year. “I am expecting we’ll have another zero,” the mayor said about the property tax impact.
