A tangle over Trinity project

GENEVA — Ahead of another public hearing on a plan to redevelop the historic Trinity Episcopal Church is an effort by the city’s Planning Board to take over lead agency status for the required environmental review.

The Planning Board would taken over from the Zoning Board of Appeals, whose decision to provide a use variance for the project was rescinded earlier this year on the recommendation of the city’s attorneys.

Steve O’Malley, who is stepping down at year’s end as chairman of the Planning Board, said members passed a resolution at the board’s last meeting to take over the review.
