Alstom’s new train awaits permit for cross-country trip to test track

Schumer urges FRA to approve transport of train from Hornell to Colorado test track

HORNELL — U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer on Wednesday urged the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to approve Amtrak’s permit application for a one-time movement of its just-constructed Next Generation High-Speed train from Hornell to Colorado.

In 2016, the Amtrak Board of Directors finalized negotiations with Alstom, a leading manufacturer of trains, to provide new Next Generation High-Speed trains for Amtrak’s Acela service as part of a $2.5 billion program to create over 750 good-paying jobs, including 400 at Alstom’s Hornell facility.
