Amazon’s New York expansion: Quicker deliveries, massive warehouses in your backyard

Sarah Taddeo – 12/11-20

CLAY – Drivers on the New York State Thruway can’t miss it — the massive frame of a 3.8 million-square-foot structure looming over the tree line just outside the Syracuse metro area.

The building, just off Thruway Exit 38 near Liverpool and set on 111 acres of a former golf course, dominates the suburban industrial skyline and towers over neighboring warehouses. People in yellow hardhats dot the roof as cranes sway overhead.

Its future occupant? Amazon, the global online retail and shipping giant, which will bring 1,000 workers to the space in 2021 to package items for customers across most of upstate New York.

It’ll reportedly be one of the largest buildings of its kind in the world. And it’s just one of the major industrial expansion projects Amazon is cooking up across the state.
