An unprecedented investment: NY awards $10M in grants to 6 Genesee Valley farms

Six farms in the Genesee Valley are among the recipients of a record $35 million awarded to farmland protection projects by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets.

More than $10 million is being invested in Livingston and Wyoming counties to protect more than 4,270 acres of highly productive agricultural lands as working farms for future generations.

The funds are from the state’s Farmland Protection Implementation Grant program, which provides local governments, soil and water conservation districts and land trusts such as the Genesee Valley Conservancy with grants to offset costs of conservation easements to protect viable agricultural land from being converted to non-agricultural use.
