Cleaning out the Genesee River

Tree service crew removing downed trees from falls at Belmont Dam

BELMONT — The Genesee River waterfalls at the Belmont Dam are getting a makeover this week.

A crew from Trim Rite Tree Service is in the water, chopping up fallen trees and hauling them out of the river. The effort started Monday and is expected to wrap up later this week.

“That’s the hope,” Soil and Water Conservation Executive Director Scott Torrey said onsite Wednesday afternoon. “We probably won’t get everything because some of it is in the gravel and there’s nothing you can do with it.”

Even so, the Trim Rite Tree crew has already hauled out several trailer loads of wood, with another big pile sitting on the bank ready to be loaded up and taken away Wednesday.
