Fuel cell manufacturer’s ‘gigafactory’ in Henrietta expected to generate 377 new jobs

HENRIETTA – Three hundred and seventy-seven new jobs are expected to be coming to the area after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that an alternative energy technology provider called Plug Power Inc. will build a $125 million innovation center in the area.

It will be built in the town of Henrietta, Monroe County and will be the world’s first gigafactory for proton exchange membrane technology, according to Cuomo.

The company will use he facility to manufacture hydrogen fuel cell stacks and electrolyzers. The fuel cell stacks are used in its ProGen hydrogen fuel cell engines which, in turn, are used to power a variety of electric vehicles including material handling equipment, on-road commercial fleet vehicles and drones.
