Geneva City Council wants alternatives to leveling Linden St. building

GENEVA — City Council apparently wants more time to decide what to do about a long-vacant Linden Street property that its owner wants to demolish.

A resolution on Wednesday’s Council agenda calls for granting Calvin Ruthven, the owner of 29 Linden St., an additional two months (May 2) to provide a “complete plan for demolition” or “present a viable option for the property” that would keep the building intact in some capacity.

Council held a public hearing in February where Ruthven and his attorney suggested the only alternative for the building was to level it. Ruthven, a real estate professional, had wanted to redevelop it into a beer garden and lower-level bar.
