Herkimer considers creek project

HERKIMER — The Herkimer village board is looking to deal with flooding caused by Bellinger Brook.

The board met Monday with Benjamin Werner, an engineer with Barton & Loguidice, and asked him to submit a proposal outlining the cost to put together a preliminary design for a project to improve the flow of the creek and mitigate flooding. The firm will also work with the village on funding sources.

Werner reviewed the study and assessment of the Bellinger Brook Water Basin conducted by Milone & MacBroom Inc. following the June 2013 flood and based on that report, it appears the creek, culverts and bridges are “grossly undersized.”
