Herkimer moves ahead with disinfection project

HERKIMER — The Herkimer village board has agreed to hire engineers to draw up new specifications for a disinfection system for the village’s wastewater treatment facility.

The board voted at a meeting Tuesday to pay McDonald Engineering an amount not to exceed $47,190 to design plans for a liquid chlorine system to treat the water being discharged from the wastewater treatment plant into the Mohawk River.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has notified the village that effluent disinfection is required by May 1, according to Village Superintendent James Franco.
