HERKIMER — The village of Herkimer is seeking a grant to move ahead with the fifth and final phase of the Hydraulic Canal project.
The village board voted Monday to accept the proposal submitted by Nick Zabowski, of Orion Management, to prepare the application for a Community Development Block Grant for the project at a cost not to exceed $4,500. The grant awards will be announced in mid- to late fall.
The decision to move ahead with the grant application followed a public hearing on the proposal. Questions were raised about the scope of the project.
Village Superintendent James Franco said the work would cover the area from Steele Street to the railroad bridge.
