Insurance company seeks nearly $400K for emergency demo in Albany

Orange St. homeowners also seek money, allege constitutional rights violated

ALBANY — The insurance company representing the owners of an Orange Street home demolished last year is seeking nearly $400,000 from the city for the costs it incurred when the family was forced to find alternative housing.

The lawsuit, filed in Albany County Supreme Court on Monday by Nationwide General Insurance Company, comes about a month after the owners of 170 Orange St. filed their own lawsuit against Albany seeking compensation for their economic loss as well as physical and emotional pain and suffering from the Oct. 20, 2018, emergency demolition of their longtime family home.
