Lawmakers urge McConnell to hold vote on IJC nominees

LAKE ONTARIO: Lawmakers urge McConnell to hold vote on IJC nominees.

A group of state and federal lawmakers are urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to hold a vote to appoint President Trump’s nominees for a bi-national organization that manages boundary waters between the U.S. and Canada.

In separate letters to the Kentucky senator, U.S. representatives and New York state lawmakers argue the organization, the International Joint Commission, needs new leadership because of the threat of high Great Lakes water levels. The lawmakers blamed the record high water of 2017, which caused millions of dollars in damages to Lake Ontario shoreline communities, on the IJC and its new water regulation plan.
