Library renovations uncover surprising history

SALAMANCA — During the ongoing renovation project at the Salamanca Public Library, a surprising piece of history was recently uncovered inside the building’s walls.

While dismantling the back wall board in the old kitchen, several names appeared on the interior studs.

In 1976, during the building’s last renovation from a grocery store into the library, community members purchased 2x4s and bricks, signed them and incorporated them into the new structure.
