An attorney and an architect won rave reviews Monday for their proposal to construct a new nine-story mixed-use complex with affordable apartments and limited commercial space on West Huron Street, replacing a one-story office and parking lot across from the Curtiss Hotel and the new Emerson School of Hospitality.

The project by attorney Peter Kooshoian would create a new 77,000-square-foot building at 80 West Huron, with 54 affordable apartments on floors two through seven.

His law firm would stay on-site, in part of the eighth-floor office space, while the ground level would contain storefront retail. The ninth floor would feature a meeting area and a rooftop terrace, while the basement would hold 15 parking spaces and building mechanicals.
