KINGSTON, N.Y. — Even if the city Water Department is successful in securing grant money for a multimillion-dollar dam repair project at Kingston’s Cooper Lake reservoir, the total cost to ratepayers still would be no less than $9 million.
City Water Superintendent Judith Hansen said the maximum amount Kingston can get from the state is $3 million. The dam work has an estimated cost of $12 million.
“We are in the process of preparing a grant application for submission to the NYSWIIA (New York State Water Infrastructure and Investment Act) grant program,” Hansen wrote in an email. “It would appear that at least a portion of the work is eligible for funding under the … guidelines.”
