A $523,000 grant from New York state’s Regional Economic Development Council will provide a much-needed boost to the project to enclose the Cass Park Arena, extend the ice season and provide a more appealing and comfortable arena for users.
The grant is a matching grant, and all of the funds will be used on the enclosure project, Ithaca Youth Bureau Executive Director Liz Klohmann said. The funds are coming from the Environmental Protection Grant Fund Program from the New York State Office of Park Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Since the spring of 2016, Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau has raised $500,000 for the project. The county also has contributed $50,000, and the city has allocated $250,000 to the project.
