Development has begun on the Oneida County solar arrays that will help power Empire State Plaza in Albany, the New York Power Authority announced.

The power authority and the Office of General Services (OGS) have selected the developer for the project, which is located on OGS owned land near the former Oneida County Airport in Oriskany, and is expected to provide half of the plaza’s energy needs.

“The development of this massive solar project in Oriskany will be the largest concentration of distributed-scale solar generation in New York State, providing a significant benefit to the state and the Empire State Plaza in Albany,”” said Gil C. Quiniones, NYPA president and CEO, in a statement. “This project is a critical component of the comprehensive plan by OGS and NYPA to greatly improve reliability, resiliency and sustainability at the plaza.”
