Oneida County to spend $2.5 million for Utica parking garage design

The Oneida County Board of Legislators passed a resolution Wednesday afternoon to provide $2.5 million to complete a design for the downtown Utica parking garage.

The garage is slated to be located at Oriskany, Lafayette and Cornelia streets. There are still four properties outstanding in the garage footprint next to the site of The Wynn Hospital of the Mohawk Valley Health System, which is under construction.

“This is probably at least a two-month project,” Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. said Wednesday, shortly after the board passed the resolution.

Picente said the design will cover all the particulars of the garage, including such things as levels, outline and number of parking spots.

Picente has said the county would build and maintain the garage. The debt for building the garage would be between the county, Utica and the hospital.
