Progress made on new Sweden water district

The Town of Sweden’s Lake/Redman/Countryview water district has received its water line construction permit from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation following an eight-month review process. At its November 24 meeting, the Sweden Town Board authorized additional environmental testing in easement areas. While the project has been slowed during the COVID pandemic due to delayed agency reviews, the town plans to bid the project out this winter with construction to begin in the spring 2021.

The district will bring public water to 139 properties through a $2,327,000 USDA grant and a $2,000,000 low-interest loan. Taxable properties within the district will see the first debt service charge ($638) on their January 2021 town and county tax bill.
