SALAMANCA — The Salamanca Common Council at its regular March 27 meeting accepted a $196,035 low bid from BECC Electric of Fredonia for a standby generator in the Salamanca Municipal Building.
Smith said when the city first opened bids last year, the low bid came in at around $300,000. He said the new bid would require the city departments to do some of the work.
The city was previously awarded a grant of $150,000 to go toward a new generator, so the remaining $46,035 would come out of the city’s general fund.
“It’s just something that has to be done,” said council member Janet Koch, D-Ward 5. “All it takes is one day of an emergency and it will have been worth it. Plus, we’ve been talking about it for a year.”
