Schumer: VA centers need upgrades now

On the heels of the just-passed bipartisan federal spending bill , U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer announced an increase in federal funding — roughly $4 billion — that will be allocated to U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) Medical Centers across the country for much-needed and long-delayed repairs.

In addition to well publicized need for additional staffing, crumbling facilities are in desperate need for upgrades.

“Facilities are really important in their location and their quality,” Schumer said.

Many are old, in fact historic.

“You have (to) have maintenance work done or you’re going to be in trouble,” the New York Democrat said, adding that the VAs “have been short changed for decades…”
