Severyn Development tackles historic Florida Street duplexes, new Lockport houses

Buffalo’s version of San Francisco’s well-known Seven Sisters houses are about to get a much-needed facelift, in preparation for new occupants.

Severyn Development, a small family-owned firm, purchased seven historic duplexes on Florida Street, just off Main Street, that it plans to renovate.

The row of vacant houses, which date to 1901, were designed by Buffalo architect George J. Metzger, as a model community of demonstration homes in what was then considered “the suburbs.” They were most recently owned by Canisius College, but Severyn wants to bring them back to life as a new historic district, with residents.

“That’s one of our favorite projects,” said CEO Will Severyn.
