State budget adds $40m to flood recovery fund

ALBANY — The $168 billion state budget adopted last week includes an additional $40 million to aid property owners affected by last year’s flooding along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, and officials are urging international regulators to continue maximum outflows in an effort to prevent another flooding event.

Months of historic flooding along the St. Lawrence River and the southern and eastern shores of Lake Ontario damaged thousands of homes and properties last spring. Cleanup and recovery efforts are still underway, and officials are optimistic the additional funds could cover the cost of all eligible applicants seeking aid for restoration and mitigation projects.
