State completes last review of city budgets after deficit financing

OLEAN — A decade of state review of city budgets is complete, with the last letter being released to the public by the state comptroller’s office.

Since the 2009-10 budget, the state has annually reviewed the proposed budget and offered recommendations, Mayor Bill Aiello said.

“I think some of what they recomended is unrealistic — especially with the 2 percent tax cap — but I think it’s been good,” said Aiello, who is the third mayor to have budgets presented to the state.
