BELMONT — Weidrick Road Bridge in the Town of Wellsville has been closed to traffic since Dec. 18, but the Allegany County Department of Public Works is planning a summer replacement project.
The bridge had already been targeted for teardown and replacement in 2020 before it was flagged by the Department of Transportation in November.
“We’re still hoping to replace that bridge come this summer,” DPW Superintendent Justin Henry said at Wednesday’s Public Works committee meeting. “We have a meeting scheduled on the 15th with the design consultant and New York state DOT to discuss the cost estimates and the project’s schedule for the planned bridge replacement.”
The Weidrick Road Bridge is often utilized by traffic to and from Alfred State College’s Wellsville campus. The one-lane bridge was flagged due to deteriorated steel. Repairs were deemed unfeasible.
