What’s happening with Fairport’s lift bridge?

Victoria E. Freile | Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

The state Department of Transportation announced last week that the expected reopening of Fairport’s lift bridge will be held up several months due to construction delays.

The Main Street (Route 250) lift bridge is the main arterial in and out of town and a crucial span over the Erie Canal that connects the village’s north and south.

Regional DOT Director Kevin Bush said the delay was caused by supply chain issues and that the bridge is now expected to reopen in February 2021. The historic lift bridge closed Sept. 4, 2019, for repairs initially predicted to take about 15 months.
