Business owners and managers in Ithaca have expressed strong support for the construction of a conference center on the Ithaca Commons, saying the increase in visitors to downtown will boost sales.
Several business leaders have said they experience a drop in sales during the winter and that conferences on the Commons could provide a boost during the slow season.
Brett Bossard, director of Cinemapolis, said the conference center could help increase sales at the theater during the middle of each week.
