Busy Penfield intersection to get $1.6M makeover. What’s planned at Atlantic Ave. and Five Mile Line Road

A busy Penfield crossroads will soon get a makeover, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The planned $1.6 million project is designed to enhance safety and reduce congestion and the number of crashes at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Five Mile Line Road, said DOT regional spokesman Jordan Guerrein.

Approximately 16,000 drivers pass through the intersection daily, according to DOT data.

What’s planned for the intersection
According to the proposed plan, both Atlantic and Five Mile Line will expand at the crossroads and will add designated left-turn lanes at all four approaches to the intersection. Currently each road is a two-lane road at this spot.
