City allots grants to boost downtown housing

Award-winners for the second round of Downtown Improvement Fund grants to convert vacant upper floors on Main Street into quality market-rate apartments were announced Wednesday.

The Downtown Improvement Fund is a component of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. Oneonta was awarded $10 million through the DRI in 2016.

Springbrook received $600,000 for a large-scale apartment project on 186-212 Main St.; Peter Clark was awarded $275,000 to build apartments on 250 Main St.; Joseph Grigoli received $65,000 to renovate apartments on 285 Main St.; and Russ Scimeca received $20,000 for bathroom and floor work in apartments at 177 Main St.
