State eyes visitors center for site of demolished beanery

MOUNT MORRIS – A small section of the Genesee Valley Greenway will remain closed for the next week or two as crews work to remove rubble following the demolition of a vacant bean processing plant at 8 O’Connell Ave.

The structure that was torn down last week had previously been condemned by the village of Mount Morris, said a spokesperson for the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park.

“The state had to take action because with every wind storm, with every snow storm, there were pieces flying off and the possibility of people getting hurt was there,” said the spokesperson. “…I know that there’s mixed feelings – some people wanted it to turn into something. I agree with that too, but we can’t save everything unfortunately and no one stepped up with a wagon load of money.”
